About Collaborative Future:

Collaborative Future were a company who trained young people, who were trying to get “a foot in the door” in a creative industry. They helped with giving their interns working experience, from themselves and also from some of their partnered companies. While also training them in workshop lessons, such as how to start a business, how to work in freelance, how to code etc.

As my placement was during Covid the experience was a little different, as It was primarily over zoom calls. However, I feel that I learnt a lot while working here and it was a good chance to gain some working experience and knowledge of the industry, I wanted to step into after finishing college. I learnt a lot about different path ways, such as freelance/self employed, a hybrid of employment and self employment or just employment, and how I could best use my skills to start a career in design.

At this point in my career I was still unsure what I wanted to do and this position, in such a short amount of time, really helped me find what best suited me and my skillset.

What I learnt while working here:

  • How to work to work remotely.
  • How to make revised concepts.
  • How to manage and charge for my own time.
  • How to work to a brand guideline
  • How to invoice a customer.
  • Designing at specific ratio sizes for social media posts (Instagram grid).
  • I improved my traditional illustration skills.
  • I improved my skills with Photoshop.
